 PRLC SCHOLARSHIPS 2024

PRLC is proud to offer it’s scholarship program once again this year! These scholarships are to support the families of unionized members. These funds will help unionized families have the opportunity to pursue a post-secondary education. Annually, the PRLC will offer 5 scholarships valued at $1,000 each to students from union families within the Peel Region who are eligible.

The intention of the creation of these scholarships is to support the families of unionized members who spend many years saving funds necessary so that they or their children can have the opportunity to pursue a post-secondary education. Annually, the PRLC will offer 5 scholarships valued at $1,000 each to students from union families within the Peel Region who qualify. Categories open for application are as follows:

●      1 Indigenous Community Scholarship

●      1 Racialized Community Scholarship

●      1 Two-Spirit and LGBTQIA+ Community Scholarship

●      1 Disabled Persons (Visible and Invisible) Community Scholarship

●      1 General Youth Scholarships

ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS MUST:

●      be a member of a recognized union or the child* of a recognized union member in good standing 

●      be 25 years of age or younger, and

●      be enrolled in a post-secondary educational institute in the 2024-25 school year

*(children include biological or birth children, children by adoption and children by other, equivalent relationship)

APPLICATION PROCESS

In the application please include (in English or French):

  • Your first and last name
  • Your contact information (Email and phone number)
  • Your age
  • Name of the union member related to the applicant (or if yourself, pleased indicate)
  • Union affiliation (e.g. OSSTF)
  • Which application category you are applying for (e.g. Indigenous Community Scholarship)
  • Application related documentation (include as attachment(s) if emailing)

Applicants are asked to submit one of the following based on one of the predetermined topics for consideration;

  • Describe how your life has been positively impacted by your family’s involvement in a union.
  • Reflect on what you feel are the main societal issues that unions should be advocating for at this time.
  • As a child of unionized parents, how have union values and/or union organizing helped you overcome personal barriers related to your identity?

Topic maybe addressed in on of the following formats

●      3-minute video

●      250-word written statement

●      visual art piece

Applications in the form of a video should be emailed to the President as an attachment. Written statements should be in PDF format, sent as an email attachment or printed and/ or mailed to the PRLC office. Visual Art pieces can be mailed or emailed.

Applications are to be received by 3pm on June 23rd, 2024.
